gay literature

Why is it so hard to find either agents or publishers prepared to take on gay fiction in the UK?

Thanks. I've already found one publisher to try from looking on the back of books |'ve got at home, but I certainly will check out Waterstones. That didn't even occur to me before!

Go to waterstones and look at their department of gay litterature. Write down the publishers and google them. It's much more work than regular but at least it will give you a couple of publishers who might condone the genre. Good luck!

Scouring the Writers' and Artists' listings for publishers, I found only one that accepted work with a gay theme, and none of the agents listed so much as mention it. Looking online for more info, all I found was endless laments about how poorly served this section of the market is. As a writer of fantasy work too, I know how limited that area is, but gay issues seem to be a bit too niche for even niche publishers and agents.
