I'm always scared that the laptop is going to die so I do tend to backup my work.
I use a separate Word document for each chapter I write. Once I am happy with what I have done, I will save a copy over onto a pen drive, keeping the original on my laptop so I can tweak it if necessary.
If I do make any changes to my work, I'll copy that over to the pen drive too, overwriting the file that was originally there.
I know there are other options there, like cloud storage, which does seem to be a good idea - you can upload and download from the storage from wherever you are, but to be honest, I'm a little bit of a technophobe with a slight hint of paranoia so I don't use it. At least when I hold my pen drive in my hand it is physical. It is definitely there.
I just feel that I put too much time and effort into what I write for it to be lost, potentially for good if my laptop does decide to commit suicide.
Always back up on my memory stick
