Well... I was searching about J.K. Rowling's early life to know which publishing house accepted Harry Potter books first. There I found Bloomsbury's site and looked for the option "Contact Us". Then comes the big surprise: Right at the page's top was written - "Please note that Bloomsbury no longer accept unsolicited manuscripts and cannot return any material sent to us. Please visit the Writers' and Artists' website and the Writers’ and Artists’ blog to find out more about getting published and how to get an agent." That's why I'm here now!!
So how did you find Writers & Artists?
I found out through searching for resources online, and I'm very glad I did!
I wrote my first full length novel in March 2010, and during the third time through editing the book decided to find out more about the publishing side of writing, so I googled 'getting published'. What I typed in so closely matched the title of the Bloomsbury conference in London in November 2011 that it came up as a match.
I was directed to this website and read all about the writers and artists yearbook. Not only did I book myself on the conference but I also ordered the yearbook and read it from cover to cover during the evenings of a week long training course.
I was fascinated by the articles in it and if anybody read my comment on the 'Do I Destroy Books' question by T O Buhrer, they'll know that I put flourescent pink mini sticky notes all over my books. The yearbook is covered in what looks like pink confetti.
I googled some of my favourite writers to find out who their publishing house or agent is and made lists of Literary Agents to google.
While I was on the website I saw the writing competition and by the time I got home after a long day at work I had my first competition story written in my head.
Oh sorry, everyone. I see that I got a bit carried away. I love this forum and have only just discovered it, so have gone a bit mad with answering people's questions and comments.
When looking for a writing contest:)
