How does a story form in your mind?

For me, an Idea for my protagonists and few things about their world sort of comes to me, and while creating the story (with many ideas in my head), I kind of imagine my characters moving, talking etc.Well that's just me, but what about others?

i usually already have ideas in mind either from listening to music or having a dream and with those i think of characters that would fit within the ideas i have. As well as a plot. i then just start writing using basic information i already have and develop and expand on them.

I usually have just one basic idea for a character and then I just make everything up as I go along, including the plot.
