I have self published my memoir (under a different name) on Amazon Kindle and have been trying to market it. I have a website, I am posting on blogs that are relative to my memoirs and also networking on facebook/other social sites and doing free promo days. I have had nearly 2000 downloads (inc free promos) but really want to step it up. Does any one have any other advice on how I can advertise my book without having to pay a fortune?
Do you have any local free magazines? Especially if your memoir is based in that area. See if they'll interview you.
Would your local library put up a poster if you produced one? Always worth asking.
I recently visited Big Pit in South Wales and noted that a lot of the books they sell are memoirs of the mining industry published by small presses or self-published. Does your memoir involve an industry? I can think of lots of ways an ex-nurse might use her old hospital to promote her work. You just need to find an institution relevant to the story.
