How to promote a self-published book?

I self-published a poetry anthology book this year, but it just isn't selling. Any tips or ideas on how to market it?

Facebook, Twitter, local readings at schools, libraries, or bookshops. Involve the local press, the local BBC station. (Be Brave!) Have you published on Kindle? Sadly, Kindle doesn't offer review copies, but there are various ways of promoting on there. If you've published in hard copy, contact poetry mags and websites and ask if they would be prepared to review for you. If yes, send out copies, and also, ask them either whether they would duplicate reviews on Amazon for you, or whether you might quote their reviews. Contact poetry blogs. Use your own website or blog to publicise. It's hard slog, but it's worth it because it gets your name out there.

I'm not really a fan of review sites because friends' reviews tend to look like just that, friends' reviews.

Hope this helps.

Poetry is particularly hard. A friend of mine has published his free to draw attention to his novels.

If you are on Kindle you could try the select service. I would also make it well-known locally. If the woman three roads down knows one thing about you, it should be that you've self-published a book.

After that, review sites. Get all your friends to review your book on one site at the same time so attention is drawn to it. Good Luck.
