How to sell sci fi crossover

by Susannah J. Bell

Having struggled for years to sell my science fiction work to publishers and/or agents (and there are VERY few agents who accept sci fi while all the sci fi publishers are "closed"), I thought I'd write a more straightforward relationships-type novel about a kidnapped child that is returned. But somehow the sci fi element crept in - an element I rather like! - and now I don't know how to sell it! Any ideas?

I knew there was a good reason to register with W & A!! I'd never heard of magic realism before now....I think I'm going to go with that one as The Time-Traveller's Wife is exactly the kind of genre that Ultra fits into (if it had to fit into anything at all!)

Thank you both, Louise and Christina!

Hi Susannah,

I'm with Louise on this one. It is a sound plan. If you don't give it a try you'll always be left wondering with all the 'What if's'

I like the idea of magic realism even though I have no idea what that is!! Otherwise thanks, I think I will sell it as sci fi - it's what I want to be known for writing!
