Join the club, Robert. I am willing to bet that most of the want-to-be authors on this site lack the financial resources to employ a private literary editor, or any of the services offered on this site. They are as poor as church mice.

As for being sponsored, you have more chance of being struck down by a rusty cannonball.

I don't know how serious you are about obtaining funding to write your book, but I have just Google'd your question. "Can you get grants to help write a book" and there are loads of web site's. This is where you should be starting to look for help, can I just say that there is no quick fix or free hand outs to help you write your book. All budding authors have the same problem you are facing at some point in their career. But they have tried to overcome their problems by searching for a solution that might not be what they want to hear. It can take some writers years to finish a novel, after they have researched into their work and re-written their work several times before actually getting the finished product. It is then that the hard work starts and it is then that you need the help and advice. Writing the book is the first leg of the journey, If you get the funding you need to finish writing the book, you will then need to look at getting it published. This can be a soul breaking period and many a book has fallen at this hurdle. But if you are confident that your book can stand on its own merits and it will sell, then a publisher will pick it up and that can be the start of your career. Just one more thing if you can't get funding that doesn't mean you should stop altogether. You can put the book on the back burner till you have some extra funds or till things start to pick up. I hope you can get some help, but it is a hard world out there and funding of any kind these days is hard to come by.
