If I'm not writing One Direction FanFic - is wattpad the right site for me?

Has anyone else been over at Wattpad?

Honestly, I did not know that One Direction fanfic was such a big thing. Most site users are young, female and accessing the site from school according to Alexa (site stats).

Are there any other sites which you use to test publish or can you give me any advice about Wattpad - maybe it's not dominated by highschool/groupie fanfic after all?

Replies

I've put up 14 chapters so far, and have 292 reads, though I think many of those are me checking and editing. No votes (not sure what the concept is) and only 4 comments (2 were mine in reply) that were not very useful regarding feedback. Bit of a no-no for feedback.

Margaret Atwood teamed up with Naomi Alderman to write the The Happy Zombie Sunrise Home which was put up October and has 135k hits more than mine.))

Many thanks Dor & John,

I have very much enjoyed some of the writing on wattpad - fanfic The Humping Games is one that rather sticks in the mind, as well as the Margaret Atwood poetry - I'll have a look for the book.

Dor, as the mother of no children I feel distinctly excluded by mumsnet! - just a pet gripe.

I uploaded a short story. Only four people have read it so far. How about you John?

I'll have a look at authonomy.

Thanks again!

I've been on wattpad for a couple of weeks and it feels like Facebook for fan fiction, though as Don says there are some serious writers on there and I have enjoyed some reading, not least a novel by regular Margaret Atwood! You can try it out and see what you think with just a short story or two.

You might also look at authonomy.com run by *whispers* HarperCollins. They do have a mechanism that might see your work before a panel of their own agents with a chance to get some proper feedback.
