I've planned for not winning (ie I've sourced a magazine and an anthology I can submit the story to once it's 'done' so I dont' waste it) but haven't got any plans for winning.
Being shortlisted or a runner up would mean that I have something else to talk about to agents when I finally finish my next novel. A win would mean a lot of organising of annual leave and babysitting to try and get to the writing course! But worth the planning obviously! The prize money would just have to go on the credit card at the moment; not so much fun but I had fun entering ;)
I may enter a short story competition one day, but at the moment I'm to busy editing my completed manuscript.
Thanks for all the replies. It's good to dream, your using your imagination. Damien, I had to laugh at your reply.
