I know this site proably have a lot of foreign writers who writes in English. I would like to know - do you think the English language is holding you back when you write in it? To those who have mastered -how did you do it? What made you a better English writer given your choice of words? Would you prefer your own language if there was a greater market for it?
Well done Chaucer - and the word Parliament, monsieur?
It was Chaucer, in the 14th century, who was responsible for members of Parliament to speak English instead of French.
And don't forget, English is hybrid language borrowing from France, Germany, Italy, and the Scandanavian countries!
And also don't forget, even English people struggle when writing it too. I did an English Language for Writers course a couple of years ago and was amazed at how much I didn't know about my own language!
