or does it?

A 'Hello' to everyone in this community (: I just recently joined and was wondering if there are published authors in here who feel up to share how they got where they are now.

This seems like such a great and creative community, I'm thrilled to be a part of this.

Hello!

I'm not sure how much use this will be to you because I'm probably atypical. Although I suspect more and more writers will get published this way in future.

Basically I self-pubbed my first book after becoming fed up of rejection: a pretty common reaction, so I gather from other writers I've 'spoken' to online. I would have done exactly the same with the second but I'd carried on approaching publishers and one expressed an interest once I'd reached first-draft stage. They accepted the finished article and it's just been released.

For me the important aspect of having a publisher on board was their access to 'the trade', which I don't have. That'll hopefully show itself as more effective marketing than I've so far been able to manage working alone and potentially increased sales, particularly in print.

I hope so, anyway, and there's the rub. I don't know. If it works out I'll try to stick with a trade intermediary for the next in the series. If not? Let's be optimistic, which I usually am.

I think anyone who writes has to be :)
