Hi all,

Can anyone suggest areas of work that would compliment the desires of being a writer? I'm currently a teacher of English but want to make a change and can't seem to find the 'right' thing!

Thanks :)

Working for a publisher would give an insight. I worked in a bookshop for two years when I was doing some part-time writing courses. The pay wasn't very good but it was an excellent insight into publishing and what the public looks for when buying a book. I also got the opportunity to meet a few published authors which was helpful for understanding the nature of the beast!

A lot of writers nowadays come from journalists but that's just my view on things, who knows maybe there are many more job ranges out there but my main job view would be a journalist
