Hello all. Is there anywhere on this site where I can legal advice with regard to a book contract? Thanks.

Many thanks, Helen, I'll give them a try.
Thanks again, Lorraine. It is a standing contract with a small press. Friends recommended him because they had their books with him. We all regret our decisions. I believe he has violated the contract and, if so, I want him gone.
The Alliance of Independent Authors will check contracts/give advice. Might be cheaper to join for that advice (and other benefits) than seek it elsewhere.
It sounds as though you know your contract isn't right, Phil. Don't sign it! Have you googled the name of the publisher to see if anyone has raised concerns elsewhere?
If you go to www.sfwa.org, there's a section called Writer Beware that has a list of dodgy publishers of sf in the US: also www.theindependentpublishingmagazine.com has an article called Author Solutions - Writers Beware that names some companies to approach with care.

www.pred-ed.com is another place to look.
Hope this helps.
