Motivation

Hi all, I'm sure everyone here has experienced the dull ache of writer's block and painful 'hitting a brick wall' moment in writing.

I'm currently editing my novel (about third draft), and I'm losing the will to live today.

I've already taken a long break from my own work, I've taken some notes from others, and I still feel like I'm fighting that brick wall. Does anyone have any good tips for breaking down said wall? Or tips for motivation? For killing that horrible demon of self-doubt and self-loathing?

I really want to submit for a midway review next week and at this rate I just don't see it happening.

Thanks to any responses

Hi, spotted this late, but thought it might help in the future. I have one novel published, but had to write many a long report etc, in the past. You need to deal with your "Braincramp," and the subsequent glooms. You've forgotten your body's need to move. Go away, put on some lively music, and vacuum the house from top to bottom. The physical activity will stop the braincramp you're suffering from, and give you the boost of having something tangible completed. Sit down, do no more than an hour of work, then clean out a cupboard, wash the shower down, etc., whilst singing loudly, and so on. It has to be active and pretty "mindless" for this to work. Have plenty to drink, but stay off the caffeine, and sugar.

Just thought I'd say thanks for the support guys. I shall hopefully get more done today in time to submit tomorrow.

Thank goodness for this community

Hi Amy. I once read a quote Stephen King made about writers block. He said the way he overcomes this is not to start writing on a blank page. Always carry your writing onto the next page and leave at least one line of writing to carry on with when you next pick it up. I tried it and it worked for me. Keep going. Good luck.
