Hi,
I want to self-publish a book and want to know how I get an ISBN number. The advice on this site says to see the FAQs in the Writers & Artists yearbook, but the link send me back to this site.
How can I get an ISBN number?

I think Neilsen charge just over 100 for 10, Jon, so individuals will be more than 10 pounds now. Don't you have to supply the regulation copies either way? I know my brother did.
That's because the Writers' & Artists' Yearbook is a paperback book you can order from this site. The information inside isn't anywhere else online. You have to buy the book or get a copy from your library.
If you have decided to make the mistake of bypassing the author's bible, the Google search you are looking for is 'Neilsen ISBN Agency'. But there is so much more in the Yearbook than how to obtain an ISBN and I wouldn't self-publish before you've at least thumbed through a copy. Local libraries don't always have the latest one but I think 2008 onwards is recent enough. I have the 2009 and there is lots of good self-publishing advice in it.
You can buy one yourself. Try

for info. If you're going through an intermediate publisher they may be able to provide one more economically - when I last looked seriously, which was a few years ago, £10 was a reasonable cost. That's cheaper than providing regulation copies to the British Library.
