I have made multiple submissions. The Agents are going to answer at different times. If more than one answer requests to see the remainder of the work, is it proper to send the stuff to each of them and see which one comes up with a firm publishing offer?
Hello there. I am also currently querying/submitting.
It is my understanding that agents have individual preferences- as you mentioned with an example above. If an agent wants to have an exclusive they will ask for it. When they ask for the full MS they may very well ask to whom you have been submitting too, and if you have had any other requests. I have read it recommended that you inform agents you have submitted to, in case they are likely to have an interest you would wish to consider. And certainly inform them if you do get an agent...seen quite a few twitter tips/grumbles regarding that :)
The above, all together, is rather optimistic, mmm?
It will take time for an agent to find a publisher for your book, it has to go through the prosses of editing and then finding the correct publisher for your book. It won't happen the next day that once you find an agent that they will get you a publisher.
I've heard from authors that it can take months for an agent (the right agent) to find you the right publisher.
I know when I look for agents I search there past and present clients. But I've also heard that if you aren't happy with what an agent offers you then you can leave that agent to find a new one. But it all goes on what you want.
Hi Connelly,
No I will not. We are now on the same page. My original question related to the stage after subs but before actual signing up. Signing up is commitment on both sides in my book. I think Barlow got my point in that asking for the rest of the stuff indicates interest but it's not in itself a commitment. I take it that signing comes after the agent has seen the whole ms and possibly has found a publisher.
