What is it about the first page that appeals to you?

The very first line of the first page is what interests me. Like in the class Around the world in Eighty Days by Jules Verne(It is my favourite), the opening is awesome!!
The Hobbit's starting page. Its written quite nicely. Take the starting sentence- "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit." That itself gets your curiosity, and I personally like it a lot. Obviously I'd have to say the writing is what appeals to me, the writing that gets in to your head i.e that grabs your curiosity and makes you want to read more. However way, it is done, I think a first page should be able to draw as much attention and curiosity of the reader as possible, otherwise I don't think the reader would be willing to read on.
