National Novel-Writing Month

National Novel-Writing Month is coming up and I was wondering if you can still sign up to do it when you've already started the novel. I'm halfway through my current one, and could do with doing another 50,000 words in a month.

Or is National Novel-Writing Month just for people who haven't started writing their book yet?

It doesn't really matter what you write. Traditionalists would tell you you should start from scratch and I did that, but when I finished the story well before the required 50,000 I simply started writing a book of short stories and made the rest up with that. For me, it doesn't matter as long as you keep writing the whole month and reach the word target.

There is one caveat. I personally wouldn't use my main project for a Nano. I was writing my series when I did it in 2009 and I stopped it for that month, just because the quality you spill out at that speed isn't likely to be your best. Don't get me wrong, it's totally worth doing and is an excellent learning experience, but something I, at least, considered separate from my bigger project.
