Should I put the same effort in "problems" that don't really matter for the story, but make the story a bit more interesting that I do with the hole story?

I wouldn't know without seeing what you believe to be unimportant problems.

There is a danger that the reader would find the unimportant problems an unnecessary distraction. Have you made the same mistake I did in my earliest writing and gone off on tangents.

Ask yourself how closely the unimportant problems relate to the plot and storyline. Cut them If they have little or no relevance.
