Hi all. If anyone has a voice recorder on their phone or tablet use it to read your work into and play it back. I've just found a voice recorder on my phone and I'm so glad I did. I read page one of my ms into it and when I listened I realised it didn't sound right, so I've re-written most of paragraph one. Most of you are probably already doing this but to those who aren't it's a huge help.
I use TextAloud from nextup, com - works very well with Word.
I always listen to my work out loud.
It's inexpensive and regularly updated. You can get a free trial too.
On my version of MS WORD there are fifteen different types of English - but that hardly helps with the read-back!
If you intend to listen to you work in a different type of English (and I am not suggesting you are), perhaps you might check to see if there is an app or programme avialable.
Hi Edward. I think using anything that will help us achieve the best results we can get is a help. For me, just reading my work back to myself isn't enough, I need to hear it being read and my voice recorder is ideal. I understand what you mean though about the difference of meanings and spellings in other countries, e.g. American tire, labor, etc it can be difficult if you plan on sending your work abroad you need to try and get it right. Thanks for your input.
