Since my first novel has been in the top 100 on Amazon, and bearing in mind the inherent difficulty of promoting books, d'you think I'd get away with tagging it 'Amazon Bestseller' on my website?

Personally I don't think it's too cheeky at all, especially if it is regularly in the top 100. I think many people now promote themselves as much as possible, particulalrly with jobs as scarce as they appear to be. I'd say 'Go for it'.
