Paying for book reviews

My book is at the printers so I should be a self-published author by the end of the month.

Now begins the advertising campaign. Well it actually began about 6 months ago but now it gets serious.

I have come across a number of book review services who charge for their reviews. Is it worth it using these or should I just hope that I can get good reviews from the actual book buying public?

Have a look at this before you consider paid reviews from anyone.

As a snap reply I'd say no. I'd need to know a lot more about your marketing strategy. Why can't you get free reviews from readers or the friends who encouraged you to write the book in the first place? Are you sending out advanced review copies? I'll give you my own input if you let me know a little more. There's plenty of guys out there who will take your money. Who or what is your market? When I started in this game I dreaded harsh reviews. If everyone loves your book you're doing something wrong. Good luck with your launch. I'm always happy to talk to self-pub foot soldiers. Let me know if you're going for an e-book version? You can give those out for free to bring in reviews.

What's the plan comrade?
