Hi

would a literary agent pay me if they want my book or would they simply send it straight to a publishing house.

Hi John,

A literary agent will not pay you if they want to represent your book, as most agents work on a commission basis. They won't start earning money until you do. They would work with you on your novel to get it into the best shape possible before submitting your novel to a list of editors at publishing houses.

All best,
