Present or past tense

I've just started writing a story in the first person and I don't whether it's best to write is in the present or past tense. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

I agree with Anthony.

You have various options.

You can write in the first person, third person or omniscient person.

Hi Gayle,

I don't think one is 'better' than another. But there is probably a tone that feels right in context of the story you are telling.

My YA novel is written in past-tense, however, the adult Sci-Fi – currently on the back-burner – is written in first-person present tense which I think suits it more (as its in a similar vein to the Film 'Cloverfields').

Perhaps you could share a small amount of the same event/passage written in both first-person past/present tense?

Other than that, I guess my only other piece of advice would be 'write what feels right' – don't say that ten times fast!
