Are prologues pointless? I've written one that's about 1000 words and something about it bothers me, so I am wondering does anyone have any thoughts on prologues? or should one just dive straight to chapter 1.
Basically my prologue describes my main character as a young child showing up a couple of key points to do with the story later on..but is this a bad technique ? help help
What's the odds that an agent or publisher will want you to change your chapter one to a prologue??? ;-)
Thanks all, for your comments, much appreciated. I was really going through a patch there. I did some research and found some interesting stuff about prologues . I know this will sound crazy and I wonder does this happen to you all out there...ok, I dreamed the answer to my problem last night. I woke up about 3 am and the answer was there, clear as day. Rewrite the prologue and voila it becomes chapter 1. At least today it seems right, tomorrow who knows. Thanks for all who, took the time to reply. It's a times like this I know I can turn to you, let's face it, who else would understand, only the mad world of writers....
I heard publishers hate prologues, they prefer it if you just call it chapter one...that was quite a long time ago though so things might have changed.
