Pseudonyms

If you're interested in publishing in more than one genre and they differ quite differently from each other do you think that adopting a pseudonym is a good idea?

It would also depend on your own name. Mine usually causes people to stumble over the pronunciation (it's as it is written!) and could put readers off. If your name was a common one, you may choose to go with a more interesting pseudonym, or get lost in the search engine trawl. If you wrote erotica, you may wish to hide the fact; same with horror or many other genres. It's down to personal choice and pragmatism.

It's an interesting question and I toyed with the idea of using a pseudonym if I had work published however, having googled my full name with middle initial, there is no-one else coming up other than headstone descriptions!

It depends how different I think. Will someone searching for more of the same be disappointed in the new style and leave a bad review?

Even a small differentiation such as Iain Banks/ Iain M Banks helps to avoid confusion.
