Psychological Analysis

Hello, folks.

Today I got some questions aimed at people who make a psychological analysis of your characters. To be honest, I've never talked to another writer who enjoys this writing modality. As my project is a complete psychological thriller, I'd like to hear good tips from members who appreciate this genre.

How do you build a character's subconscious?

How do you share your character's thoughts through his acts?

What use to be an inspiration to your character's personality, and why?

(If some member shared any work based on this genre, leave the link below your answer. I'd love to read).

Well, like I said, time.

I must have answered this question about four times but never actually hit 'post'. The trouble is that I don't think you can tell someone else how to do this. I know how I study the psyche of each of my characters but I'm quite sure it's very different to anyone who has studied psychology, and probably different to the way many other writers do it come to that.

I think you have to find your own way. My book isn't a thriller but psychology is key to it. For me it was mainly time. I spent so long with my MC that in the end everything he was hiding and lying about eventually surfaced. Even so at the end of five books there are still secrets he'd kept that unravelled as tears rolled down my cheeks. If you stumble across a real gem of a character hidden in your head, the only restrictions on him are the ones you place on yourself. That is so important to remember. Let him fly in anyway he knows how, no matter how terrifying the result.
