As a first time author I need to know how should one present the query letter, synopsis, manuscript, CV etc to the publisher? Should the entire ream of the matter ( could exceed 300 sheets if print is on one side) be loose; numbered and in an envelope? Or is there some other accepted way to present the documents?

Hi S G

The agents websites usually also give details as to how to present your submissions as well as letting authors if they are accepting submissions at the moment too.

Thank you for the information, Victoria! I have made the query letter, synopsis and MS exactly as required with my surname, name of the book and page numbers in the header. I just felt maybe a folder would seem a better presentation.

In the first instance you should only be sending 30-50 pages - your cover letter, synopsis and up to three chapters depending on their size.

All MS pages should be loose, numbered and with your surname somewhere in the header or footer in case the pages become confused with someone else's.
