Publishing contract

hi

I was offered a book publishing contract but they wanted me to pay between £2000 and £4000 depending on my requirements for the book. This would also allow me to keep the rights to my work. Was this a good deal, I can see the theory behind this. if I went for a traditional publishing contract where I wouldn't have to pay anything towards the costs would I loose the rights to my work.

In my last message I meant traditional publishing contract not self publishing contract

Never enter into any deal where a publisher expects a would-be author to part with money - that is vanity publishing.

Hi Ken

Thankyou for taking the time in replying. As I mentioned in my message to Neil and Johnathon, I have already self-published quite a few of my books with CreateSpace, Lulu.com and KDP Publishing. CreateSpace is now closed for self-publishing books, but now it is solely for audio books and videos. But you can now publish your book and kindle on kdp. Even thou I have achieved my goal on Amazon, I am still looking for a traditional self-publishing contract.
