Query letter for trilogy

Hi all,

I've written a manuscript for a novel that will (hopefully) be ready to send out to agents next year. Thing is I've written the novel as the first in what's looking like a trilogy. What's the query letter protocol for this? Do I hint that this is the first in a series, or do I just wait and see if an agent offers to represent me before mentioning it?

Thanks !

Hi Louisa. My first novel, which I hope will be ready to send soon, is also the first of a trilogy. I've drafted a sample query letter in which i state it's the first of a planned trilogy although the book stands alone. My logic being that if they like the ms then they would be interested to know there's more where that came from.

But I'd be interested to see other responses to your question as I've never queried an agent before so it's all new to me.

Good luck with your writing
