Do you know how much it is to hire a website designer to build a basic website for an author?
I know it's a difficult question to answer, as each website is individual, but I have no idea what sort of prices to expect.
Would love to hear from anyone who could go here's a website and here's how much it costs (even if this is an approximation). (Please exclude any purchasing of hosting, domain names mailbox features etc). I'm particularly interested if it uses the WordPress software.
Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

I run a small web design and software company (though we take on very few websites these days) and I would agree with the person above £750 - £3000 is very realistic. You might get something as cheap as £500 but anything cheaper is probably not worth having.
I also agree with Helen that it's worth having a go yourself if you're low on budget. I find Wordpress a bit fiddly and prefer Squarespace, but the advantage of Wordpress is that so many people use it there is a lot of support out there.

I've seen prices ranging from £750 to £3000 to build a basic website using WP software, so it really can be 'how long is a piece of string' in this regard, unfortunately.
Have you thought of giving it a go yourself? The Wordpress software is very easy to use - they have a lot of templates, so you just choose the one you want and add copy, links etc to end up with a professional-looking website for the cost of the domain and hosting.
I did my own blog this way, and am in the process of converting it to an updated website, and I wouldn't say I'm a huge tech person. This article might be of some help to you if you decide to give it a go yourself:
