I agree with you Victoria that it is highly satisfying when you see your book available on the Amazon store. My book was a local history book with a limited market, but as you say the subsequent marketing campaign required to promote the book represents a challenge, beyond the word of mouth method! What are the titles of the books you've published? Best of luck in the future!
I've written twelve novels, both fiction and nonfiction, and they are all on Amazon KDP, Smashwords, Nook, and Goodreads. As Victoria said, it's a challenge at first, but if you use the templates, Amazon provides, the process is fairly straightforward. I had my covers made by an artist on Fiver very inexpensively, which was the only cost. Marketing your work is the hard part, as there are so many scam book marketing companies out there. Writer Beware is a big help to authors as far as finding out about scam publishers.
I put my original novels on kindle, just because I knew I wouldn't do anything else with them. I'm taking them off now because they aren't the best examples of my work. It takes a bit of work to understand how to format and upload a novel to KDP, but it's quite rewarding to finally hit the 'publish' button. Then comes the hard part - marketing your novel. I was at university when I published mine so I didn't have time to get into any marketing. If I was going to do it again, I'd approach it quite differently.
