Have I caught your attention?
I just wondered why, as a writing community we don't seem to communicate that well. As a frequent flyers of four writing related sites, why is it on this one, people are unwilling to critique other peoples work. Aren't we here to help each other in any way we can?
As to myself, I attempt to review at least two or three per week, even though I'm currently re-drafting my own MS. Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm only trying to get people talking and helping each other, because without that, how do we know if what we are writing is any good.
So come on, who's behind me on this? Let us make a brilliant writers community that will make others drool with envy.
Sarah. :)
I think you have a great point Sarah. I haven't put any of my work on here yet as it is simply notepads of ideas right now, this is why I wouldn't dream of commenting in any real way on the submitted works. I do find it interesting though that there really isn't a great deal of help/comments. Surely not everybody on here is a newby like me?
I know that when I do submit something I would like people to offer any comments they have, positive or negative, after all, I'd rather do it here then think I've written perfection and have it thrown back as rubbish.
Louise.
Never be afraid of asking anything (it's that British stiff upper lip thing, I know), I learnt that many years ago, but perhaps being a manager back then helped.
I agree about the US forum members not wanting to give out much advice when it comes to publishing, but I only feel it's because they don't want their market flooded with submissions from over here that's all, so you can understand their reluctance in a way.
However, as I'm only on my second draft I can't offer you much help, as I'm nowhere near ready to send out submissions and query letters yet. All I can say is, find the agents or publishers that are accepting MS in your genre and get posting.
Sarah :)
Charlene, there is a site called Wordcloud, it is advertised in the front of WA year book. There are some fantastic groups on there and people readily critique work. It is a very friendly site. And lots of advice given as well as great community chat.
