Hi,
I am new to this site, and any kind of site like this. I wonder if you could help?
I am keen to read other people's work and offer honest comments etc but if I put a peice of my own work on here for comment which I later intend to send off to a magazine or compeition for publication, how would that affect the clause 'we only accept previously unpublished works'?. Would putting a short story on this site mean that I could not then send it to a magzine that doesn't accept unpublished works? Does putting work on here affectively mean that it is kind of published as it's in the public domain?
Thank you in advance
Thank you all for your comments; I don't want to take any risks when just starting out, so I will definitely check out those suggested sites!
Unless I decide - one day - to take on the challenge of writing a novel whereby I will be able to put up particular extracts for comment, then perhaps these sorts of sites aren't for me at present. I did like the idea of being involved in a 'world of writing', but maybe it's just about finding the right site (with password protection ha ha)
Thanks again.
Louise - sorry, you're quite right. I tried it and they can be viewed logged-out.
But I'd still disagree posting with a view to obtaining critique is 'publishing' in any accepted sense. Putting it up on your personal blog would be a different matter - you're inviting 'public' view, which I don't believe is the case here.
Although the web's changed our perspective of what's public and what's not I'd still argue this site is a puddle compared to an ocean. Okay, a lake, then ;)
I think Louise is wrong - this is a 'member' site, hence not PD. Otherwise, peer-review sites couldn't exist, either.
If you're looking for one of those I'd recommend Youwriteon.com - IMHO far less backscratching goes on there than any other I've come across.
Best of luck with your story :)
