Should you use a Pseudonym ?

I have always wondered when you write a novel should you use your own name ? The reason I ask this is some people are not happy with the name they have. so should you use a Pseudonym to aid the sell of your book. I have also noticed there are quite a few authors who initials and surname their books, like C J Sansom, J K Rowling, P J Wodehouse, but to name a few. So what are your thoughts Pseudonym or own name ?

Personally I would like to use my name. It's probably my journalism background, but I find a lot of importance and significance in my name and being about to attribute my work to me easily. There is probably a dollop of ego in there too; no doubt I'll be proud of what I produce and I will want people to know I did it!

Knowing your work will be easily attributed does impact on your writing, particularly if you are tapping into personal moment to colour your writing. Using your name definitely carries weight and significance.

I would prefer to use my name and not my initials. Adrian Sroka, Adrian John Sroka, or Adrian J Sroka.

I believe both are better than A J Sroka, or A Sroka.

When a book is successful the name on the jacket seems to fit.

Apparently Joanne Rowling doesn't have a middle name, but the publisher thought it would be better with two initials rather than her full first name. Their reason this time was that Potter was aimed at teenagers and they didn't want to put off the boys with a female author. She took the 'K' from her grandmother Kathleen. Just goes to show the control that publishers have over the writer, so, perhaps best not to worry about it just yet.
