Simultaneous Submissions

Hi,

Just wondering, what the "done thing" is? If there is no mention of simultaneous submissions on an agent's website, is it okay to assume they don't mind if you send to others at the same time? Or is it an unwritten rule that you should only send to one agent at a time?

Replies

Although don't send to more than one agent at the same agency, they don't like that. And I agree with both Carla and Ashwerya's advice, absolutely, otherwise you could be waiting years. I recently had an agent get back to me after more than six months, so definitely send out to more than one at a time. Good luck :-)

I agree with Lucy. Agents and publishers I've spoken to have all (few not many) have the expectation that each submission they receive has also been sent to others.

The key is to make each one targeted at the specific agent you're sending it to.

It's a bit like a job application - make it specific to the individual; don't send out a general letter that covers all.
