Does anyone here promote their writing through Twitter and/or Facebook etc? I'm just asking as I have read a couple of articles in writing magazines which are positive about the potential benefits of putting yourself out there and connecting with other writers, and would be interested if anyone has had some success stories and positive experiences through doing so.
Hi Victoria and thanks for replying. I definitely underuse Facebook and maybe its worth exploring again. However, and here I applaud you for being brave, I find it easier to post examples of my writing on to forums where I don't know the others taking part and would find it a bit daunting to put myself out there so much for friends and family to see. (That won't be a problem when I'm signing my first editions though - lol :) ! )
Hi Dor and thanks for your reply. Good point, well made! I haven't bought any books as a direct result of Twitter as yet (although I have perhaps looked up the author's website so that's a bit of a concession I suppose) but you are quite right in saying that those tweeting purely for self promotion of their books are easy to spot, and I tend to avoid them in favour of others who have more advice/tips or things of interest to share rather than just trying to sell. I'm afraid you lost me a bit with the Hugh Howey reference, but that's me just showing my ignorance!
Hi Jonathan and thanks for taking the time to comment. I will look for your website. I also set up a blog in March when I was off work for a short time and going stir crazy at home and this has kind of tied in with my increased use of twitter. It's still very early days yet though so not sure what kind of impact if any it will have in the world of social media, but it's all good experience I guess.
