Hi all, I have used Ibooks, available free for Macs for writing my novel as it has a pleasing format. However, for submissions, or sharing of work, I use Word, which has a decent spell check and word count tool. (Anyone else come up with word counts a 1000 words off for same document?).
I would like advice on tools which make editing, proofing, highlighting words and formatting text easier? Also did anyone solve compatibility issues with other software?(I just lost all my italics from Word to Ibook, having spell checked on the former, before transferring back to Ibook).
Please advise on useful tools and processes to revise, edit and submit without too many hitches.
Hello, Sonya
I'm in the middle of a 30-day trial for Scrivener and will buy it when the trial ends. I never planned a story when I started to write. I knew the beginning and the end, and of course I ended up all over the place. I used post-it notes and lost them. I had notebooks but wanted everything in one place, including my mad jottings.
Scrivener has allowed me to create a story board with virtual post-its that I can move around as the story develops, track my characters and settings, and create outlines for each scene/chapter (useful for compiling the dreaded synopsis). It even has a place for ideas (my mad jottings).
So far it is proving a useful tool as my current work is part of a trilogy and I need to keep track while I'm writing. Is it the best software? I haven't completed my work and used all the functions yet so I can't answer, apart from to say so far so good. You'll only know if it is right for you if you use it.
Hope this helps
thnaks Ritesh, I looked both software and might transition to scrivener. It would be great to see what the real experience is-what software do people normally write on? and edit with?
I believe Scrivener is pretty good, I've seen some good review's. And Storywrite seem's quite popular as well.
