Well, I suppose learn from all that authors give out, I always check around to see what a certain author has to say on improving your writing, becoming an author, and getting things published. Over course of time, I've assembled an Author tip database, I don't insist that you do it, but you can learn a whole lot if you take the time to read what all the authors say.

And the rest comes down to this- Traditional Route or Self-Publishing

If it's traditional route- Send your work after you make it the best you can and send it out to multiple agent's at once. Out of those who respond, some will reject you at first glance, other's will say they need to read more, so give them the material and after time passes, they'll get back to you. WOOHOO if one of them accepts or multiple do, but don't get down if you're rejected. Keep going. After getting an agent, he/she will work with you to get a deal from a publishing house, work with them and utilize they're expertise, they know the business well.
