hello, I'm new to all of this and have just joined a writers group at my local library. I want to submit my story about "the visit" but I have no idea about the layout should the font be a certain size and line spacing. I did say I'm new to all of this. thanks Paul.
thank you both for your help I will use wisely your direction, as for masterpiece... probably more like mantlepiece, full of unnecessary clutter. let's hope not. Thank you again. Paul.
A solid block of print is not easy to read, so I suggest you use paragraphs as you were taught at school and punctuation to make it easier for your readers.
I use a new paragraph each time a new speech begins. Double line spacing is often recommended but providing the competition rules don't required you to do it a little less space is ok as a rule.
If the appearance is right the reader/judge will be in a better frame of mind to take in your masterpiece.
Hope this helps.
Hi Paul,
I wouldn't worry about it too much. As a standard I use Times New Roman for the body of a manuscript (point 12) and (Arial Point 14 for any headings. I also use 1 inch all round margins.
Keep it clean and tidy and it won't be a problem.
