Hi,

I need to compose a 600 word synopsis, how detailed should this be?

Do I need to include all of my stories twists?

Any help would be apreciated.

Many Thanks

I read somewhere that the best way to do a synopsis was to use this to explain your story.

It's about 'somebody who wants something and has trouble getting it.' and then your end result. 'Somebody' your protagonist. 'Wants something' wants and needs. 'And has trouble getting it.' Their main aim and end result.

Hi David, an exciting time! I agree with what Adrian is saying, but it sounds easier than it is, as Gavin points out. You have to make sure it is understandable (obvious I know) but if you read what well known published authors say, about how difficult they they find it. some have said it is easier to write the novel than the synopsis.

Actually what I wanted to say was the cover letter is just as important as the synopsis, if not more important. What I didn't know, was that the synopsis is the last thing they read. If they find your letter interesting, then they will probably read your first three chapters, or ten thousand words, which ever they ask for. It's the letter that gets their interest in your first chapters. Only if they like and are interested in those chapters, then they want to know where it is going and how it ends and... if there is another book after it, that's when they read the synopsis.

I was surprised to find out just how quickly the cover letter loses an agent's interest. From what I saw, it took about thirty seconds for one of the longer looks at a rejection, some took just the first couple of lines to have them tossed aside. It didn't fill me with confidence.

So a lot of work on the letter first.

Hope that is of some help, letter, chapters, synopsis.

Hope it goes really well, best wishes Paul G
