Is there a best time of the year to publish a book?

Just as the question says. Obviously anything that hits the Xmas market is probably a good time, but are there others which may vary with the genre published,?

Book launch largely depends on the genre, target audience and shelf life. It takes a lot of time (good few months) & huge effort on the part of publisher & author, to promote the book. This needs to be factored in and worked out.

My book, being one on yoga, was launched start of the year to capture wider attention, around the International Yoga Day, in July.

In my opinion, aggressive marketing is more critical than the time of launch.

Hope the above helps!

I think they reckon an early October date hits the Christmas market. Problem is that attracts every publisher and his doberman, so unless you're well known, or very lucky, I suspect you get buried beneath the avalanche.

I'm not sure there's another recommended time, though a couple of months prior to the summer holidays may be good for child/ YA books. It's all a bit of a lottery, really, but someone else may know differently...?
