Time lapse between paragraphs

Hello all

When a period of time passes in a story, you often see an asterisk (*) in between the paragraphs showing the end of one period of time to the beginning of another. My question is do you think this is necessary when only two weeks have passed?

It's hard to comment without seeing what you have written.

Asterisks or white spaces usually occur at a change of subject, time, setting and viewpoint. However, with skillful sign-posting you can avoid the use of to many white spaces, or the use of asterisks.
