Time/Place

Where do you find a time/place that you feel able to write at your best? Just a curious question as it wont help me :)

In a household as busy as mine can be, I nearly always write in my bedroom during the day with the door closed so I'm not disturbed (I long ago trained my family into the idea that they can come in if the door is open, but closed means that I'm working and they should at least bring coffee if they want to disturb me), or overnight when the house has gone quiet.

I do like to have music playing in the background and am very grateful to YouTube for providing me with this ability. I also listen to Heart or Magic radio from time-to-time while I am typing away.

In many ways, I use the same routine that I used to use when I was studying for my A-levels and Degree, except that my writing is generally less pressured.

For those around long enough to remember the ads - I'm a "Martini" writer - any time any place...

The great thing (when you're crazy) is that busily writing somewhere like a pub or a bus stop is great for causing confusion and/or starting conversations.

Probably the most common questions are "Are you from the council / Inland Revenue / DWP?"

Answers vary from "No I'm from MI6 but don't tell anyone" to "Is it that obvious?"

:-)
