tips on the middle grade genre

Hey guys!

I want to write in the middle grade genre (upper level middle grade). I was wondering if anyone had any wisdom to share on the genre as I'm completely new to it but I do think that it can't be that different than YA right?

Reading widely in the genre is probably the best way to spot the differences between middle grade and young adult. Libraries and bookshops usually have their shelves set out in age groups, so they're not difficult to find.

Middle-grade books: Ages 8–12

Young adult (YA) novels: Ages 12 and up or 14 and up.

Your target audience is YA.
