Not expecting anyone to fix this, unless they know how to keep from biting fingernails all the way to the elbow, but just needed to do *something* while I wait for final response on my collection after it clearing initial and full queries with the publisher and am waiting for the final acceptance or rejection which could come at any second...or two weeks from now. I hate this part of the job!

I'm editing several novels for two other publishers now. One wants nearly a complete rewrite, but that is why writers tend to have a large masochist streak, isn't it? Luckily, the ego is bigger whenever good news comes and another book gets added to the ego shelf. I am finding relief from the stress I was feeling by shifting gears and spending some time focusing on my poetry in my 'free time'. Also forcing myself to focus more on reading again, The inspiration of other writers and knowing what they went through to get their work out there keeps things fresh.

Oh, and a friend who runs two publishing houses just had a book published by the one I was so stressed out waiting for. After seeing the mess he landed in, I've contacted a good contract lawyer to look over things if the collection is accepted.
Is it true that there used to be magical creatures called agents who handled this messy stuff, or are they just legend like elves and the Earth being round?

BanWynn, congratulations, you have endured the long exhausting struggle to complete your manuscript, submitted your work, and now await a publisher's verdict.
In the meantime, there is no point getting stressed out over something in which you have no control. Rather than fret, I suggest you consider planning your next project and concentrate fully on that. Besides, its better to fill the void of what to do with yourself next by doing something meaningful and constructive.
