Is reading "how to do it" and constant planning another form of procrastination?

It's like hovering on the edge of the swimming pool. loving the clear blue water, yearning to swim like the ones with the master stroke but never plucking up the courage to just dive in. So what if you get water up your nose and gurgling in your ears! You will find that swimming (and writing) come naturally - if you let them.
I once knew an illiterate man (by his own admission) who wrote a book about the very subject I had laboured on so carefully for so long, which was highly commended by a publisher.
I was annoyed to say the least but it did promp me to speedily finish my novel.
