Waste of time?

I've entered quite a few competitions over the years and excluding my school ones I never seem to get anywhere. Most I find also charge to enter :/ should I just give up entering? Are they a waste of time? Or should I percivere?

Don't give up. But make sure your potential gains are worth your investment.

Each makes a decision about the cost / benefit analysis.

You must make yours.

Look for those competitions that charge little or nothing but offer either hard copy publishing and/or money. Then there are those that are simply designed to help you refine your craft. You must decide what you want out of any competition. Then go with your gut. If you are looking to make money at it, I haven't seen many that can.

Just my opinion. Good Luck in all you do!
