What can I do with an 8,000 word story?

Are there any competitions which accept novelettes? I've written an 8,000 word story which I am really happy with but it seems like it's too short to self-publish so I was wondering whether there are any competitions, I haven't found any through online research.

Hello Alex. There are loads of short story competitions out there. A Google search SHOULD give you some results. Word counts vary.

I've pasted a link below of a list of competitions from a writer's website. It's broken down into flash fiction competitions/weekly/monthly competitions, etc. He goes into a bit of details about some of them and regularly keeps the list up to date.

I'm not sure if admin allow us to include links to other websites on the W&A site, but here goes...

Why not keep it and make an anthology of short stories. These are great for folks on long train commutes.
